Since around 2007 the Junior Oxford Dictionary has removed biological words in favour of technological terms. Although language changes over time, this points to a disconnection with nature as we know it; what once seemed familiar is made strange. Language forms the basis of our understanding and ability to engage with life; without the language to describe our natural environment, how can it maintain a place of social and cultural importance? It also implies a superseding of nature by technology, which is concerning for the future of both.
